Congratulations to Chen Weichao and He Youbang for the triumphant win of the 2023 GFDA International Design Award for their original design project titled "The Glow of Tridacna." This achievement stems from their remarkable transformation of the original architectural flaws and the ingenious fusion of indoor and outdoor spaces.
While preserving the natural landscape outside, the designers rejuvenated the indoor light and shadow structure by employing techniques such as expansive glass curtain walls, soaring void spaces, staggered floors, and sunken areas, thereby enhancing the spatial continuity and coherence. Furthermore, the pairing of the tridacna gemstone-inspired luminous coating with a creamy color palette harmonizes the overall lighting and softness, fostering a serene and elegant living environment.
This project fully embodies the designers' profound concern and exploration in interior design, architectural renovation, as well as the seamless integration of nature and humanity.

The Glow of Tridacna - Design for a Chinese Home
This case involves a nearly 20-year-old Chinese
style villa district where the original design flaws and the years of growth of vegetation and trees in the courtyard have significantly impacted indoor lighting.
To preserve the timeless charm of the outdoor landscape, the designers carried out extensive renovations to the interior and facade, replacing the original walls with extensive glass curtain walls. They opened up the spaces between floors, creating a layout featuring soaring void spaces, staggered floors, and sunken areas, thereby reinventing the light and shadow structure within the building volume.
While maintaining the connection between indoor and outdoor spaces and fostering the exchange between humans and nature, the designers also enhanced the continuity and cohesion of the interior spaces, redistributing the natural light throughout. The entire design utilizes a palette of tridacna gemstone-inspired luminous paint and creamy colors, bringing the house's lighting and softness closer to a serene and elegant ambiance
